Vidu are working on a super exciting assignment in the search for a Customs Broker on behalf of a rapidly growing, extremely innovative logistics business.

Our client has engaged with Vidu VIP to carry out the initial search.

Our team of dedicated consultants will be your first point of contact when applying for this role.

Scope of the role:

As Customs Broker you will support our clients business ensuring all Customs entries both import and export are entered accurately and in a timely manner, whilst providing an exceptional customer service within or clients Customs department.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure customer specific DLSOP (Desk Level Standard Operating Procedure) are utilised in conjunction with consignments documentation and data to fulfill government agencies and our clients customers’ requirements.

Verify that all documentation received for customs purposes are compliant and correct and retained within our clients document retention system.

Transpose customs declaration information from documents, or other sources into the customs entry system to allow for the timely build of a valid customs declaration.

Track and trace Customs files via your assigned work board. Ensure timely customs submission and release of all customs entry types, for all modes of transport to the UK, in line with company KPI’s.

Ensure accurate and timely client billing.

Interact with customs authorities to address any issues/questions that may arise during the clearing process.

Act as the liaison between the customs authorities (or other government agencies and customers)

Contribute to maintain strong relationships with customs officers and our clients customers.

Ensure compliance at all times to all external and internal policies and regulations. This includes internal policies and procedures such as Operational Process Standards (OPS) and external government regulations.

Understand the department process flow, constantly looking for areas of improved efficiency.

Keep up to date on all regulatory requirements governing the import and export of goods. This includes but is not limited to customs procedures for imports and exports and any other government agency requirement.

Meet KPI standards, as per our clients company procedures.

Oversea communications, timely responses to emails and requests (internal and external) Escalation of problems to Management when necessary.

Claiming UCN’s for Customs Entries.

Completing Customs Entries.

Interacting with customers, colleagues and visitors alike in a positive and quality service manner.

Working autonomously and well as part of a team.

Any other ad hoc tasks as and when required and instructed by the Line Manager and/or member of the Senior Management team.

The role also involves being able to manage deadlines and sometimes difficult situations, therefore an element of negotiation is required to be able to meet timescales.

Skills and experience required

Good working knowledge of customs brokerage processes and systems is essential.

12 months plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A solid understanding of UK Trade Tariff Import/Export.

Experience of using customs software.

Sound knowledge of customs legislation, especially with regards to custom procedures, classification, valuation and origin.

Understanding of documentation requirements – Transport, Commercial and Customs.

Knowledge of air, road and ocean transport requirements.

Good knowledge of incoterms.

Effective interpersonal skills, including proven abilities to listen, comprehend and effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results.

Pro-active, strong organisational skills.

Good computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Fluent in English – Verbal and written.

Previous experience in Customs Documentation.

Intermediate understanding of the law and regulations surrounding customs clearance requirements.

Experience in road transport, logistics or haulage would be desirable.

Excellent telephone manner and strong communication skills.

Focused and self-motivated with a keen eye for detail.

The ability to work autonomously and also well within a team.

Confident negotiation skills to manage difficult situations and timescales.
