COO – Long Island, NY

Closing Date: 22nd September 2026

Vidu Group

About this position

Vidu are working on a super exciting assignment for a COO on behalf of rapidly growing eCommerce distribution business in Long Island NY with operations across the USA.

Our client, are building an out-of-home delivery and returns network for the way people actually buy and sell today. They move parcels between consumers, marketplaces, and retailers through a national network of drop-off and pickup locations, service centres, and hubs, backed by a technology stack built for visibility, speed, and cost control.

Circa $250,000 basic salary (dependent on experience) total compensation, $300,000+ when performance goals are achieved.

If you’re a data driven senior operator with experience in parcel, last mile, or middle mile operations, Marketplace, eCommerce, or high-volume returns, and you like the sound of having a seat at the table, with a company on a mission to build the most powerful out-of-home network in America, this one’s for you!

Your Mission:

As COO you will own the operating network end to end. Collection, middle mile, hub and service centre processing, final mile delivery, and returns.

This is a build-and-run role, not a caretaker role. The network is expanding aggressively on committed marketplace volume, and the person in this seat is accountable for making sure it scales without service or cost breaking.

You will own the full operating P&L, set the performance standards the entire network runs against, and build the operating leadership team underneath you.

You will partner closely with the Chief Commercial Officer, who owns customer commitments and pricing, to make sure what our client sells is what they can deliver profitably.

What You Will Own:

Network performance:

End-to-end service performance from collection through to final delivery and returns, measured against contractual SLAs.

Health and throughput of every hub and service centre in the network.

Middle mile and linehaul strategy, utilisation, and cost, including new lane setup ahead of demand cost.

Cost:

Full ownership of operating cost per parcel across collection, middle mile, and final mile.

Structural cost reduction as volume scales, not just cost holding.

Cost accountability shared into the regions, with the standards, visibility, and cadence to enforce it.

Network expansion:

Launch execution for new hubs and service centres, on schedule and to standard Capacity planning ahead of committed marketplace volume growth.

DSP capacity strategy: procurement, onboarding, performance management, and compliance.

Team:

Direct leadership of the Regional General Managers, the Head of Network Planning, and the Head of DSP Performance.

Building the operating bench: hiring, standards, accountability, and succession Installing the operating cadence, from daily stand-ups through to weekly business reviews.

First 90 Days:

Full command of current network performance, cost per parcel, and the gaps between the two.

A single set of operating standards and a reporting cadence that every region runs against.

A clear-eyed assessment of the operating leadership team and a plan to close the gaps Launch plan for the remaining service centre go-lives de-risked and resourced.

First 12 Months:

Cost per parcel reduced on a structural basis while service performance improves.

Regional operating model running with real P&L accountability at the RGM level.

Network capacity built ahead of committed volume growth, with linehaul systematically planned rather than reactively spot-bought.

An operating leadership team that runs the network day to day without escalation as the default:

Skills and experience required

10+ years in parcel, last mile, or middle mile operations, with meaningful time at scale Proven ownership of a multi-site operating.

Deep working knowledge of DSP or contracted delivery models, including cost structure, performance management, and compliance.

Linehaul and middle mile fluency: lane design, utilisation, carrier and vendor management.

Previous P&L ownership, ideally national in scope.

Direct experience scaling a network through rapid volume growth, including launching new facilities.

A track record of building and leading senior operating teams, not just running them.

How you operate:

You run on data, not anecdote, and you build the reporting yourself if it does not exist.

You are comfortable in the buildings, not just in the deck. This role does not run from a desk.

You hold a standard and you do not negotiate it downward under volume pressure.

You are direct, and you would rather surface a problem early than manage the optics of it.

Desirable:

Marketplace, e-commerce, or high-volume returns experience.

Experience in a founding or early-stage operating seat where the process did not exist yet.

Experience operating inside a network that is being built and run simultaneously.

Strong Excel is non-negotiable. Working fluency with AI tools, order management systems, and driver management systems is expected, along with the ability to build your own lightweight tooling rather than waiting on a queue. Our client provide network visibility and insight tooling and they expect you to push it further.
