The Role:

Based on their recent successes and in line with their growth plan and strategy coming into a new financial year, our client have a newly created and super exciting senior sales opportunity for a hungry, driven, entrepreneurial Business Development Manager/Senior Sales Manager to join their journey, and be responsible for identifying, winning and developing key strategic new business clients on a national scale across all regions and sites.

The purpose of this role will be to define and deliver large profitable customers over £800,000k per annum by building strategic networks and relationships both internally and externally, working closely and supporting the local territory sales teams and Regional Managers to improve the overall customer experience.

The role requires a high level, experienced sales performer with a track record in exceeding budgets and acquiring large strategic customers.

Key Accountabilities:

Responsible for the key strategic new business acquisition and development.

Work closely with regional sales teams, operational and customer services teams to support the winning and successful on boarding of new strategic clients.

Effective Pipeline management and manage accurate budget processes and forecasting requirements.

Manage and resolve commercial issues (such as service/credits/payments)

Ensure product and freight network compatibility and profiles trade in line with contracts set.

Support the territory and regional sales teams to explore and develop additional income opportunities from the existing customer base.

Ensure that Business Development portfolio is profitable and exceeding growth targets set.

Negotiate and deliver annual rate reviews in line with company targets.

Support service recovery for their clients.

Manage professional monthly ‘partnership’ meetings with client base.

Work with local and national operational colleagues to ensure service and trading profiles are being delivered.

Support finance and credit control when required.

Support the Regional Managers and Sales Managers with coaching and development opportunities to support future succession planning and talent development.

Technical capabilities:

Business Partnering – support diverse customers to interpret business needs and define innovative, cost effective solutions and maximise client profitability.

Strong Business Acumen- to plan and deliver high level / standard business plans and budgets on time and accurately. Have a strong Commercial understanding, including P&L and budgets.

Strategic planning – design, deliver and execute against Group business needs, targets and budget expectations.

Stakeholder Management – network effectively cross functionally and manage key senior stakeholders both internally and externally.

Negotiations – to be able to present and negotiate profitable and sustainable long term strategic contracts / partnerships, in line with the Commercial and Operational policies.

Customer Relationships / Planning – be capable of planning and managing customers and portfolio’s effectively improving the overall customer experience.

Skills and experience required

A proven track record of high value business wins within a Logistics/Distribution environment.

Demonstrable commercial experience, structuring contracts from £250,000 to £1Million plus, from inception to close.

Exceptional articulate communicator/presenter.

Excellent negotiating skills/consultative style.

Ability to build long term profitable relationships.
