Vidu are working on a super exciting assignment in the search for a Transport Manager, on behalf of a rapidly growing, super agile logistics business.

£40,000-£50,000 basic salary (dependent on experience) plus KPI related bonus, package, hybrid working and excellent opportunities for career development and progression.

Your Mission:
This is a pivotal role within the transport operations. You will be responsible for managing the Class 1 truck drivers and ensuring seamless coordination of parcel movement.
You will be at the forefront of trucking compliance, strategic planning, and cost-effective routing, working closely with airline handlers, customs teams, and operational leaders.
It’s imperative you have a genuine passion to transform and optimise trucking transportation, ensuring that our client meet and exceed KPIs, budget targets, and operational efficiency goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Transport Operations & Driver Management:
Lead and manage a team of Class 1 truck drivers, ensuring compliance with driving regulations and company standards.
Recruit, train, and develop drivers to maintain high performance and safety standards.
Plan and execute cost-effective truck routes, balancing efficiency, and compliance.
Ensure all transportation activities comply with O Licence regulations and industry standards.
Monitor driver hours, working limits, and vehicle maintenance schedules to ensure compliance and efficiency.
Customs & Compliance Coordination:
Work closely with airline handlers and customs agents to ensure smooth clearance and transportation of parcels.
Maintain a strong understanding of UK customs systems, including Descartes and CCS UK, to manage import/export processes effectively.
Oversee all transport and customs-related documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
Communication & Leadership:
Act as the key point of contact between drivers, handlers, and internal teams, ensuring seamless coordination.
Maintain a professional and effective communication approach, both internally and externally.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize transport operations and enhance service levels.
Performance & Financial Control:
Monitor and manage KPI delivery, ensuring operational targets are met or exceeded.
Oversee budget control, financial planning, and cost management for transport operations.
Implement cost-effective trucking strategies to improve efficiency while maintaining service quality.
Conduct regular performance analysis using excel and data tools and provide strategic recommendations to improve trucking operations.
Flexibility & Problem-Solving:
Think outside the box to solve real-time operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Be prepared to work out of hours when required to ensure seamless transport coordination.
Adapt to unforeseen changes in logistics and create effective contingency plans.
CPC Transport qualification (highly desirable).
Strong understanding of UK driving regulations, O Licence requirements, and transport compliance.
Experience in managing Class 1 truck drivers and optimizing transport routes.
Knowledge of UK customs systems and software (Descartes, CCS UK) is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills – must be able to liaise professionally with airline handlers, customs teams, and internal stakeholders.
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure.
Experience in budget management, cost control, and performance tracking.
Hands-on, proactive approach with a passion for improving trucking operations.
Comfortable working flexible hours, including out-of-hours coordination when necessary.
